Keith has three dreams: to buy his own home, to start a painting business and to be a mentor in an urban community.

He’s come a long way from the time when his only dream was to live through one more day.

When he first came to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission, Keith says frankly, “I was totally broken and defeated, and I couldn’t master my own depression. I came here after over 30 other programs. The depression was part of my life and I couldn’t defeat it. I tried to survive with drugs. I didn’t want to die. The other programs were a crutch. I never succeeded or changed.”

At MRM, Keith found more than a crutch--and he’s keenly aware of the role friends like you played in giving him the counseling and daily support he needed. “Thank you very much from the deepest part of my heart for believing in God and reaching out to help others,” he says. “If it wasn’t for this place I would be in prison or out in the world using drugs. I appreciate that gift of new life. You helped me find my dignity.”

After decades of addiction, Keith faced the serious challenge of, as he puts it, “strengthening my mind again.” The insidious effects of the drugs had weakened his memory and made it hard for him to learn new skills at first. But he persevered, faithfully attending his classes in our Resource Center and working with his mentor. We’re glad to tell you that he passed his memory class, and has gained computer skills and other tools that are sure to help him accomplish his dreams.

Addiction takes a toll on the body, mind and soul. And because of your partnership, we can address all of those needs here at MRM to provide complete healing. Good meals and restful sleep help the body recover; counseling, chapel, and Bible studies help the soul; and classes at the Resource Center sharpen the mind for the opportunities and skills of an independent future.

Your compassion gave Keith new dreams and the tools he needs to accomplish them. Thank you for your ongoing compassion that provide comprehensive care to men who have nowhere else to turn!
