Cross Trainers Academy offers inner city kids the chance to succeed

Recognizing the need to provide a quality, Christian education for at-risk children in our community, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission opened Cross Trainers Academy in 2006. Currently offering pre-kindergarten through 6th grade classes, we have over 140 students enrolled for this school year. The school also serves some of the children who are staying in Joy House.

Cross Trainers Academy focuses on strong academic achievement, especially in the areas of reading and mathematics. Through diligent work, students gain the skills necessary to be successful in their academic efforts. In addition to reading and mathematics, a full range of classes is offered, including science, social studies, Bible, physical education, music and art.

Cross Trainers Academy is part of the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program. Thus, it receives funding for each child whose family income falls below levels that have been determined by the state. However, the funding that is received is not enough to cover all of the costs, in large part because we maintain small class sizes of only 15-20 students. The Milwaukee Rescue Mission is committed to raising the funds that are necessary to meet the basic needs of the school.

Mission Statement:  Cross Trainers Academy exists to provide an academically rigorous, Christ-centered education to equip students from a wide variety of backgrounds, including those who are or have been homeless, to serve their communities and lead responsible, God-honoring lives.  We do this by nurturing the whole child, empowering each student to build a strong foundation for the future.
