Help us raise funds

Have an idea for a special event or other fundraiser to benefit the hungry and hurting of our community? Let Milwaukee Rescue Mission work with you to bring this event alive. With our experience and your assistance, we can reach out together to help many disadvantaged neighbors.

The following are examples of creative ways to raise money for the Milwaukee Rescue Mission.

Sarah's Story

On a trip to Memphis, TN, a young girl named Sarah witnessed a homeless man eating food out of a garbage can. When she got home, she decided to do something about homelessness in her area. Sarah rallied her friends and family and on Saturday, April 20, they held a bake sale to benefit the Milwaukee Rescue Mission outside Sam's Club in Waukesha. They make signs, played lived music, handed out MRM literature, and offered treats galore. All in all, they raised over $500! Sarah's enthusiasm for helping those in need was infectious. She said after the even that many people were excited to help, and that she now knows anyone can make a difference if they try.

Artistic Plating's Repayment

In 1996, when our neighbors at Artistic Plating had a terrible fire in their building, MRM helped feed their staff while their offices were being rebuilt. Since then, they've returned the favor by helping to feed and care for hundreds of needy people in our community through creative workplace giving. They sell snacks, hold raffles, host an annual picnic in which their employees' gifts are matching by the company (raising $500-$1500 each year), and organize a Christmas celebration all with proceeds benefiting the Mission. Thank you, Artistic Plating, for your commitment to helping the homeless.

Elmbrook Church COOL Kids' Commitment

The boys and girls of Elmbrook Church COOL Kids Sunday School group (2nd-5th grade) have been passionate about helping less fortunate kids. They have donated highchairs, playpens, diapers, and other baby items to Joy House out of their offering money. When we needed to spruce up a room for our Joy House tutoring program, we knew just who to ask. The COOL Kids gathered up their own offering money and took a special Sunday offering just for this project, raising over $2500! With these funds and some material donations from church members, the kids provided new tables and little chairs (for the younger students), dry erase boards, a "world" carpet, a computer, school supplies, new and used children's books, and much, much more. Another 25 people from the church volunteered to paint, clean, organize, and stock the room with the new materials. The result was a clean, inviting, well-equipped room that will help Joy House kids focus on their studies. Thank you COOL Kids, and everyone else at Elmbrook Church who made caring for needy children a priority!

Joel Reinder's Creative Display

At the Greater Milwaukee Area Realtors Home and Garden Show, help March 23-April 1, 2007, Joel Reinders of Reinders, Inc. used a very creative concept to raise money for Joy House- a Musical Fountain. Water and LED lights were choreographed to music to present a spectacular show for all those who attended. People of all ages were awestruck by the display. Joy House volunteers educated interested show attendees about programs, services, and the outcome of their good work. Donors gave their support by throwing coins into the fountain, buying custom T-shirts, and making cash gifts- all to support the women and children who find shelter and care at Joy House. What a unique way to get the community involved....thank you, Reinder, Inc.!

Curves' Continuous Drives

Each month, three local Curves exercise centers owned by Rita Goodwin host a donation drive for Joy House, our family shelter. We are always so excited when Linda Ertel, who coordinates the drives, delivers the items they've collected! The Curves ladies focus on some of the most-needed items at Joy House, like paper products, diapers, toiletries, hats, school supplies, and more- which makes their donations especially welcome. Linda says the benefit to all the women at Curves is "the joy of helping." "We're deeply grateful to Rita, Linda, and everyone at Curves who gives so generously to make life better for the women we serve. Thank you!
